In the video below we show you how to fit new blades (aka knives) to your 2012 or 2012NB Thickness Planer. The video also applies to reversing your existing blades. I also show you how to make a simple jig for flattening boards in the second video.
The 2012NB features Makita’s exclusive Interna-Lok automated head clamp to eliminate snipe for improved planning performance. This means that it does not require a head clamp as seen other manufacturers machines. This speeds up the process leading to increased productivity.
This machine is arguably the best in it’s class, and has a superb build quality. With it’s 4 post design and diagonal braces, the 2012NB has unparalleled strength, at no extra cost in weight.
Changing or reversing the blades
In the video below I show you how to remove and refit or replace the double sided blades. I recommend that you replace with original Makita blades that are made in Japan. However there are other brands also available on Amazon. It takes around 20 minutes if it is your first time. Thereafter you should be able to achieve the task in around 10 to 15 minutes.
